What is shown on the toposheet as the Easter Cross was once a memorial erected on Federal Land. It is now known at the Mt. Soledad National Veterans Memorial. After many years of controversy involving religious symbols on Federal land, the cross and surrounding area were transferred to a private trust. In any case, the Memorial is a beloved landmark of San Diego and affords excellent views of La Jolla, Mission Bay, the Pacific Ocean, Scripps Pier, UC San Diego, University City, the Mormon Temple, Mexico, the Coronado Islands, moonrises, sunsets, and mountains to the north and east. It is one of four peaks on Soledad Mountain, including the Antenna Farm on Soledad Mountain, La Jolla Natural Park, and La Jolla Mesa. It is a drive-up (2020-08-04). Photo by Jeffrey Swain.
