| Tried to hike to the Cerro del Carmen already in the data base, however when reaching the obvious road to walk up a group of locals explained to us via gestures that by continuing we might lose our watches, wallets, and perhaps more. The cutting of the throat gesture was particularly emphatic. Our Spanish language skills being limited left us with little ability to discuss or negotiate.
After returning to internet access, it appears that our attempted route was not the correct one, oh well perhaps on another visit.
This slightly lower peak, is in a much safer area with marked steps (444 of them) to a nice lookout with a lighthouse, chapel, and cannons. Shops & bars line the way with many helpful people offering water for sale. Views are great. |
