|It is possible, though unlikely, that Sugarloaf Mountain to the southwest is actually higher than Clear Fork Butte , which would result in CFB only having a clean prominence of 240'.|
I believe CFB is higher than SM for the following reasons:
(1) SM has a marked height of 4202', whereas CFB could range from 4200' to 4240'. 95% of that range is greater than SM's marked height.
(2) The 4200' contour interval at CFB's summit is much larger than the corresponding interval at SM's summit, giving it a larger area in which to increase in elevation.
(3) The spacing between contour intervals leading up to SM's summit is generally much wider than those leading up to CFB's summit, implying that the terrain within CFB's 4200' contour interval is steeper than that inside SM's corresponding interval.
