This distintive, steep limestone peak is part of the Spray River range. Access to the peak is through Commonwealth Creek, a popular ski touring area in the winter but less visited in the summer. The immedediate neighbours - Mount Birdwood, The Fist and the other peaks in the area are all quite jagged and steep. Mt. Smuts is generally considered a difficult scramble and may harbour 'unofficial' alpine rock routes which are not listed in the CDN Rockies climbing guides. A tough but rewarding summit, via the south ridge.
