List Description

Some notes on this list:

  • The flags of Ecuador, Bolivia, Slovenia and San Marino have specific named mountains on their flags.
  • The flags of El Salvador and Nicaragua show five conical volcanoes that represent the original five member states of the Federal Republic of Centra America (1823-1841). The peaks on this list are the highest volcanoes in those five nations.
  • The flag of Costa Rica has three volcanoes representing the three main mountain ranges in the country (Cordillera de Talamanca, Cordillera Central and Cordillera de Guanacaste).
  • The flag of Slovakia has three peaks symbolizing the Tatra, Fatra and Matra ranges of mountains (the last being in Hungary).
  • The flag of St Lucia has two triangles symbolizing Gros Piton and Petit Piton.

Some web pages claim that the flag of El Salvador has a representation of the five peaks of the Cordillera de Apaneca, but it seems more likely that the peaks have the same symbology as the Nicaragua flag, based on many sources. In any event, Santa Ana would be on this list in either scenario, as the highest peak in the Apaneca and the highest volcano in the country.
