I'm a mostly native Utahn, and have been fascinated with the West Desert of Utah ever since I was pretty small. My dad would take my brothers and I rockhounding out there, and the quiet, open, and bare desert, punctutated with rocky ranges, began to grow on me after a while. Currently I'm pursuing a master's degree studying Great Basin Bristlecone Pines (Pinus longaeva D. K. Bailey), and am lucky enough to do "work" around the Great Basin. My main peakbagging goal is to eventually summit every peak, knoll, and rise in western Utah, which may take a lifetime to complete, or more... The views of white-washed hardpans, austere desert ridges of limestone, endless rises of pinyon and juniper, higher forests of bristlecone and limber pine, and, of course, bagging peaks, are what keeps me going. |
