Ascent Trip Report

Finished the Saranac 6er on Scarface. I've heard it's the most boring one, but I found a lot of interesting things along the way. A railroad, a memorial bench for an Australian soldier who died on the mountain, a bridge over Ray Brook built by prisoners, a foundation with a rusty bike and some other contraption, loads-o-toads and butterflies. The first part is easy with a gentle walk through pines and some creeks, then some elevation but never too overwhelming up to the first ledge lookout with some nice views. Then it gets a little confusing where the trail is to the actual summit. Once you find that, it's easy to follow. There is another big rock base with another view, then keep following the trail into the woods more and soon you'll find the small white cheesy round trail marker serving as a summit sign (hand written in black Sharpie...that's it). Be sure to get to this point if you're doing the 6er. Then off to Berkeley Green to ring that bell!
