Ascent Trip Report#4 of the Saranac 6er and what a climb. Started from the Haystack Trailhead. I'm told the Jackrabbit trail is a much easier approach, but we were only planning Haystack then Scarface. Change of plans when we saw McKenzie was also at that trailhead. Oh well! Wow, first a long stretch over lots of rocky creek bed then up, up and more up over roots, boulders, rocks and what not. So steep and pretty much never ending. Definitely the toughest of the 6er. Exhausting. Merle, Alan's cattle dog, needed some help over the boulders at spots and sunk his leg into a hole, limped a little but was ok. Got to a big rock with a view, which we thought was near the summit, but nope! We saw a mountain off in the distance and it looked soooo far away. That was McKenzie! Off we went up up up more. Found the little summit sign with a thermometer that read 68 degrees but it felt like 90. Headed down to the junction of Haystack and headed up.
