Ascent Trip Report

Successful on the second attempt. We followed the ridge leading from Butte Pass to Pass Butte, finding goat trails on the north side of the crest. We tried the south side the day before and found it was more of an unpleasant krummholz-bash so yeah, I'd suggest the north side. Also, I would not suggest trying to traverse around Pass Butte, it's really loose boulders and talus. Just eat the extra 200' of gain, climb Pass Butte, and run the ridge. Much easier travel that way.

We stayed on the crest from Pass Butte all the way to the summit of Lost with the exception of a traverse through some boulders under pt. 8107. Be very careful if you traverse these boulders, they are looser than they appear. a 5'x5' boulder gave way under me and resulted in a banged-up knee - could have been much worse. Lost Peak feels like one of the most remote places I've been in Washington. It was a long, long hike out to a cold beer that night.
