Ascent Trip Reportwe opted Commonwealth basin trail. Got on Red Mtn trail, then bushwhacked over at/near where the Red Mountain trail has switchbacks. We found ourselves west of the creek, looking up and seeing very miserable ascent. So we went west. We ascended a gully up to the plateau behind Cave Ridge to pick up that trail for a West Ridge approach. That worked nicely and was fun. Got to the West Ridge later than expected, roped up, climbed it. Rapped off east ridge (after adding some webbing to the east ridge rap station). We then descended into the Commonwealth Basin. It was not a pleasant descent. We decided to Bushwhack east to pick up the Red Mountain trail. We finally picked it up. It was so nice to not be navigating choss, boulders, trees/brush. I recommend to anyone doing Cave Ridge approach, and rapping/downclimbing the west ridge and descending the same way.
