Ascent Trip ReportDrove in Caribou Valley Road (aka Caribou Pond Rd) to the gate (sketchy bridge just past the gate).
14:40 - Departed parking lot, follow road
14:48 - Right turn on AT
15:09 - Crocker Cirque campsite turn off (stay straight)
15:47 - Summit - South Crocker, turn around head north on trail to North Crocker
16:10 - Summit - North Crocker, turn back around, head back to South Crocker
16:28 - Summit - South Crocker. Had a little trouble finding trail to Redington. Eventually found it.
The "trail" to Redington is very easy to follow.
17:06 - Summit - Redington.
Retrace the trail a bit to a right turn (flagged) heading downhill (easy to find/follow). The trail turns into an ATV trail, turns into an old logging road, turns into a gravel road. There are a bunch of stream crossings - some of them difficult to avoid wet feet. Once I started ascending, I used arial photos to bushwhack/navigate up. The woods were not bad to navigate through. I eventually popped out on the old AT trail. It's a beautiful trail complete with AT markers in the ground, but hasn't been used in a while. You'll see my right turn in the middle of the woods. I followed it to a blowdown area where I lost it. I continued walking through the woods until I found the real/current AT trail.
19:22 - Summit - Abraham. It was very windy (barely stand up straight) and the sun was setting (getting cold - ~50 degrees). I knew I needed to move fast (I was solo).
20:51 - Summit - Spaulding Mt. I made all the way from Abraham without needing my headlamp. I put it on here. 21:45 - Intersection of AT and Sugarloaf trail. I was cold, so I decided to skip the .5 miles over to Sugarload and head down. OMG - the trail down to Caribou Pond road is crazy and sometimes difficult to follow in the dark.
23:08 - Back at the car (happy to be back at the car).
