Ascent Trip Report

Wakely re-opened this week after repairs!! So excited to be able to climb it as #30 of the Adirondack Fire Tower Challenge (100%). Ron, his dog Maximus (German Shepherd) and I headed up at 7:00 am. The first two miles took 40 minutes. Flat and easy with two little bridges (or was it one??). The next mile was rocky and steeper, but never horribly so. There is a wooden handrail at one section and wooden stairs at another (not the easiest to walk up and down, be careful). I'm not sure how long it took as I was so thrilled I forgot to look. Just before the tower, off to the right, is a helicopter pad. Turn around and look back and you'll see the top of the tower. Fantastic views. The tower is really tall with a ladder into the very top. The dog was fearful of being helped up into it, so stayed just below on the landing. Wow! What views from the tower (none from the ground). 360...we could see Snowy and Blue towers and high peaks. Upon return to the trailhead, we saw a family with a toddler in a stroller heading in. We let them know it gets steep, but they kept going in anyway.
