Ascent Trip ReportWhile this was my second ascent of this peak- I don't know how I had mis-remembered the trail to Boundary as being "good" and the traverse from Boundary to Montgomery as "not bad".
Getting to this trailhead was not bad- there's a pretty major road coming in from US 6 and a high clearance vehicle can get to the mine without much difficulty. Beyond that, the road does get a bit more difficult, particularly rutted, but should still be passible for high clearance vehicles.
This was my first time starting from the Queen Mine Saddle, and I found that a much more enjoyable start than trail canyon. The trail was easy to follow to Trail Canyon Saddle where the trails combine. From there, the trail is steep usually on loose rocky terrain, but gets worse when it goes through blockier rocks where losing the trail becomes likely.
I jumped off the trail to head to Montgomery a little too early, and made that part a little harder for me.
The traverse ... well it sucks. There are a couple major obstacles between Boundary and the state line- though they can be bypassed on either side- the southeast side is easier with more solid terrain. From the state line, there are numerous trails- we found it much better to stay higher on more solid rock (we tried lower and had a miserable time on our way up).
