Ascent Trip Report

Accessed via Eagle River Nature Center/Iditarod Trail and Twincicile Glacier. Met up at 4:30pm and hit the trail at the Nature Center. It’s about 8 miles to the Twin Falls drainage, we climbed up and into the hanging valley and setup camp at about 10:30pm. Woke back up at 4am, cooked breakfast and were moving by 4:45am. Up the Twincicle Glacier and to Twincicle Pass. Our team of 4 roped up for the Twincicle Glacier as it was early July, and I have no idea where/how big the Twincicle Glacier cracks are. Stashed the rope at Twincicle Pass. Up Mt Soggy’s SW Ridge on an amazing July morning, not a single cloud over all of South Central AK. We bypassed point 6700 to the NW which required traversing a snow incline 600ft above an open bergschrund, nothing crazy but not an area you would want to slip (probably obvious but everyone in my party had a helmet and ice axe). Summit views on a clear day are out of this world. It felt like we climbed out of lush green summertime below and into a world of snow and ice. Reversed route and relaxed in camp for a few hours in the early afternoon. Down-down-down and out the Iditarod trail arriving at the Nature Center at 10pm that evening. Wish I had more time to spend at that campsite as there are tons of routes and peaks in that area.
