Ascent Trip Report

It all started out smoothly. Then the rock stairs went forever and scrambling up giant rock faces. Wow. Not what I expected. Then the section where you have to pull yourself up about 5 feet of tree roots and squeeze through a section. Two guys were helping each other. I was alone, so no help (and none was offered). THEN, the yellow paint blazed path up the bald summit. This had me near panic mode. Ok, full panic mode. Keep your cool, keep your cool. I felt like one wrong step and I'd be sliding and plunging over the edge to my demise. Seriously, it is the scariest summit so far. It is wide, but treacherous in my opinion. Nowhere to really grab onto. I felt like getting on my belly and shimmying the entire way, but then there were craggy parts to practically jump down and hope like mad you'd land somewhere reasonable. Then have to get back up there somehow. But....the view....just WOW. 360 of high peaks. Some say they LOVE this trail. Maybe if I were with someone, the nerves wouldn't have kicked up so bad. I've hiked alone and never felt this frightened on a summit before. I passed a family with very young children (one was bawling; I would NEVER attempt this with a child ), an elderly woman near the summit full of smiles, a man heading up about a mile in at 7:45 pm (???)...I wished him luck.
