Ascent Trip Report"Steep" is an understatement. Even with how dry it has been recently, the stream crossings were relatively high. Much higher and it would have been impossible to cross without wading at some places. Round-trip was a little under 8 miles and about 5 hours, including a break at the summit. Tower can be climbed, but some small sections of railing are missing and the wire guard found on most NY fire towers isn't present for half of the climb. Some steep mud slopes near the summit required using a herd path to avoid, as the 60-70 degree slope could not be climbed without immediately sliding down. Poles strongly recommended for stability.
Very challenging and technical, but excellent views at the summit, as nothing to the south, east, and west is remotely as high and the high peaks are some distance to the north. Views available to the NE from a ledge near the summit, fire tower has 360 degree views.
