Ascent Trip ReportSee N Thunder report for my GPS route.
The trip over from S Thunder to Big Horn is quite straightforward. There is even a bit of a trail up it, S of the Ridgeline. I enjoyed the little meadow that sits at the saddle to the East, and made my way S of the first hill between the two mountains.
Going down Big Horn to the W I was very careful after reading on Summitpost that this is the crux of the Hematoma Quad. There were 2 or 3 places I had to drop down to the N to get around pinnacles. I tried going S once and immediately ran into the high, impassable cliffs there. I often found myself dropping into slots between rocks or even through small "caves", as this felt like a more protected way down the steep slopes to get around the pinnacles. While exposure is high, I never felt like I had to do anything unsafe. Overall a fun route.
