Ascent Trip ReportMy first 14er. Camped around 11000' in Matterhorn Creek and took the long cross country route from the west to the Uncompahgre standard route just prior to the standard afternoon thunderstorm. On the descent I became hypothermic and bonked, insisting on stopping for a trailside nap that only made my headache worse. Turns out you need to eat and hydrate at this elevation, be in shape, and not wear cotton. My hiking companions practically dragged me back down to the car. Tough day. |
