Ascent Trip ReportI began early on this one - just before 6 a.m. Zealand trail to the Zealand hut is cake and I didn't exactly rush through it. It was damp but not really raining at the time. No special equipment, just a trekking pole. I did bring along a waterproof/windproof jacket as it was supposed to be a wet morning. Good thing, because it was. It was drizzly as I climbed and only began to clear out as I approached the summit of West Bond - and just in time. The view was amazing. I understood from what I had read about this hike that it was strenuous. It wasn't all that bad. On a scale of 1 to 10 of difficulty I would give it a 5 or 6 with Wachusett Mountain being maybe a 2 and scaling the summit of Mt. Willey a 10. The trails are pretty much all rock after you get past Zealand hut and head up towards Mt. Zealand then cross Guyot. Even in the rain though, they weren't slippery and footing was solid. This was the case on the way down as well which made blasting through the descent a piece of cake.
