|Ascent Type:||Successful Summit Attained|
| Elevation:||13796 ft / 4205 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis was a great hike with great views, but the elevation is challenging, especially when sleeping at sea level.
You need to make a very slight diversion at about 13,100 in order to see Lake Waiau, but I highly recommend it.
We were fortunate in that we were able to catch a ride down for most of the way. The road has some good different views, but if there is much traffic the dirt part could get very unpleasant for hikers, and it's a bit longer, so unless you plan to try to catch a ride, I'd suggest hiking the trail back down.
