Ascent Trip ReportUp the White River Trail to Boulder Creek, then to Boulder Pass. Waited out a snowstorm right before stepping onto Walrus Glacier. Made my way to its upper reaches at 8200' and scrambled E ridge to the summit. Downclimbed the gullies on the west and traversed past 7970 to head up the SE ridge of Luanha. Easy scramble to summit. From summit reversed course briefly, then made a westward descending traverse across scree to a flat spot around 7000'. Moved south and downhill into blueberry fields, some light hedge navigation around 5600'. Continued down to a steep burned area from 5000' to 4000', found a place to cross Thunder Creek, and encountered an unmarked overgrown trail in the slide alder on the W side of the creek. That sucked for a while, then down through a briefly forested steeper section to reach the White River Trail. 2 miles of maddening bushwhacking through very overgrown trail, thimbleberries and slide alder in numerous avy chutes punctuated by blissful respite in short stretches of open forest. Somewhere around Boulder Creek the trail began to exhibit signs of a civilized influence. Very long day. |
