Ascent Trip Report

Starting at 4 am biked from end of pavement to Trinity TH. Snow started on the trail around 4000'. After an hour on the snow realized that I had forgotten my crampons at home. Who does that? Found a snow bridge to cross the N fork of Chiwawa River around 4900’ and eventually worked up to the ridge N of the peak. Scrambled carefully on snow pillows and rimy rock on the ridge to the summit and fell asleep. Dropped back to the snow and headed E to Chiwawa, up a snow finger on the W ridge and reached the summit around 5 pm. Descent using a snow field on SW rib and picked up my track on a broad lower ridge around 6600'. Reversed all travel to return to car at 11 pm. 24 miles on bike / 18 miles on foot, 19 hours.

Compared to some of the choss fests I have read about on these routes, traveling over snow was a relatively pleasant way to tag the peaks. Some sections of trail look like they will be choked with alder and thimbleberries later in the summer. Early June conditions were kind of the sweet spot for me. Lucky it went without crampons. I would rather have had them.
