Ascent Trip ReportParked at Notch Gate and took the Bernard Farm Trail which after .3 miles, crossed the highway then up to the airplane crash wreckage. Some elevation gain around this area. Explored that for a few minutes, then hooked up the the Appalachian Trail, which was rather flat with ferny sections. Then up a sun-exposed fern filled section to another highway crossing. We were welcomed to the summit area with bells and applause, as there was a Cystic Fibrosis hike/bike event. We let them know we weren't aware of an event but thanked them for welcoming up. Explored the outside mostly of the Bascom lodge and the war memorial, as we had a dog with us and he wasn't allowed in. There are numerous approaches to the summit. We took this one. AllTrails said Bernard Farm Trail was 3.7 miles RT. It does not say that you then catch the Appalachian Trail to the summit, making it about an 8 mile RT from Notch Gate. Many people drove to the summit, that is an option but you must pay to enter. .
