Ascent Trip Report

A short southbound whack from the Promenade e la Gatineau ..... 1 km, 200' gain, 40 minutes RT.

We are in Ottawa for our Grandson's Graduation, a good time to make a short/quick side trip to this nearby peak (recently added to the PB Library). Our #7 Grandson, Michael A Nellis, graduated from Carleton University with a degree in Journalism, his first job is with the Ottawa Champions Baseball Club, as Communication Director.

The biggest problem with this peak is the parking - there is nothing nearby to be had. The parking that we used is a no-no.
We found our way to the JCT hwy #148/Promenade de La Gatineau and drove north on the Promenade for abt 3.2km and parked on the grass shoulder of the Promenade. On the left (south side) is the xcountry/bike trail #66 - small and very easy to miss. This was my TH (45.45261,-75.77484). Expecting a quick in-and-out I took a chance to park here (no consequences).
I should note that there is no access to the Promenade at the JCT Blvd Saint Raymond/Promenade de la Gatineau.

I followed the trail 50 meters south to where it bends right (westbound). At another 100 meters I left the trail and bushwhacked left, a right-of-south compass line, to the summit at abt 300 meters. I first stayed right at a rock bump and scrambled to the open top - a lookout with great and only views of this route. Here a trail comes up to this lookout from its south side, so I followed it to within 100 meters of my destination, then bushwhacked the rest of the way.
This route is in a rocky area with rock outcrops/ledges, very poor footing, requiring caution. The woods are fairly open with some underbrush in places. A moderate route.

I found the obvious wooded summit more or less at the PB coordinates. To its northwest side at 5 meters is a Geocache Canister hanging from a tree, I signed-in.

I didn't take the time to check-out/look-for the start of the trail that I picked up at the lookout. Perhaps its an easier/more-official route. A visit to the Park's Visitors Center may shed some light to this trail.
