Ascent Trip Report

We stayed in Ely and drove to the trailhead in the morning. We started up Wheeler first and just above the saddle there were patches of snow covering the trail. Higher up the snow covered much of the trail and the ascent ridge. At this point we should have put on our microspikes and used our poles but for some reason we continued up the talus just off the snow covered ridge. When we reached the top of the ridge we put on our microspikes and used our poles on the snow covered traverse over to the summit. On the descent we did mostly go down the snow where it was available. Much better than trying to scramble down the large talus. Once we got back to the saddle we just walked up the other side to bag Bald Mountain. We decided to leave Jeff Davis for a snow ascent next year.
