Ascent Trip Report

Climb 6/6 for the Saranac Ultra 6. I was ready to be done at this point, but I still had 1.8 miles to go to summit Baker. Not only that, but the whole way up would be in total darkness. In the interest of trying to get to the top as quick as possible, I decided that I was going to trail run to the top, so I changed into my sneakers. After almost falling flat on my face a few times from tripping on rocks and getting completely out of breath after less than 0.1 miles, I decided I was just going to hike as fast as I could. Surprisingly saw a few small groups heading up as I was heading down. This climb was much harder than I was expecting; 900 feet in just under a mile means the climb was unrelenting. It was also my first time hiking alone in the dark and I'm not a huge fan of being in the woods at night. Yelled at a lot of noises in the darkness to make sure I didn't have any trouble with animals. As I approached the top, the trails got really confusing and windy. I wandered around in the dark for a little bit until I found what I was pretty sure was the summit, then headed down. Summited around 9:30pm and after stopping at Stewart's for milkshakes, I signed out at Berkley Green by 10:00pm. Overall, a grueling day, but well worth it. I had tons of fun.
