Ascent Trip ReportHiked in on the East Cowpen trail past the summit and ascended the ridge from the north. Searched for the USGS benchmark. We found RM 2 which had a white metal sign, which was once on a witness tree, laying beside it on the boulder. Pacing the 14 meters from RM2 towards the summit marker through head high weeds led to an area with surface boulders but no sign of the marker. Because it was described as flush with the ground decades ago, it is likely buried under soil. In the winter or early spring with the absence of weeds would provide a better chance of locating it with a tape. We descended from the summit east towards the Cowpen trail.
