Ascent Trip ReportSuperb weather, sunny and warm on top. Started at 4 am,just light from Timberline car park- most started at c1 am. Standard route up and down via Hogsback and Pearly gates. There were snowy steps all the way, no steep ice, though crampons and ice axe felt useful. It certainly seemed like the route is in condition in May.
Permits are free at the 24 hour climbers' registration ( with toilet and weather forecast) at the entrance to the Ski Centre at Timberline Lodge. In the day time this has a cafe and gear shop. There is a sign saying 'no sleeping overnight in cars or carpark'. There is a designated overnight parking area ( by concrete barriers) for those that wish to camp on the snow, above the top of the ski lift ( c 2 hour walk). We camped in one of many Forestry Service campsites on the main route 99, just near the signposted exit to Timberline Lodge and drove c 8km up the wide tarmaced road to the huge tarmaced carpark. Busy.
