|Date:||Monday, May 28, 2018|
|Ascent Type:||Unsuccessful - Turned Back|
| Elevation:||10500 ft / 3200 m|
Ascent Trip ReportLong day (10 hours plus) with no summit. Pretty much solid snow from road to top of first saddle on PCT. Unable to drive to PCT TH and unable to find trail from PCT parking area due to snow. Dead reconned in general direction of trail to saddle at which Highland Peak became visible. Normal route from vicinity of Noble Lake to Saddle south east of lake completely covered with snow. Elected to attempt ascent of west ridge of peak 10,824 which was relatively free of snow. Most of lower ridge was uneventful. Upper portion became more challenging. Snow banks had to be crossed or worked around. Several dead ends to the south (right)led to 100-200 foot drop-offs. By staying close to the ridgeline in the upper section was able to avoid deadends. Upper portion much scree and loose talus. Topped out at about 10,500 when conditions became somewhat unsafe and choose not to risk exposure to steeper snow fields and higher exposure class three. Appears possible to continue to summit of peak 10824 but unconfirmed. About 10 miles mostly cross country and about 3250 feet elevation gain.
