Ascent Trip Report

Parked at the motorized vehicle parking lot and bushwhacked to the nearest ridge. We encountered a trail in the woods and followed it up. This trail connects with the first road on the north side before the recreation area and starts at a gate marked with orange flagging tape. Take an immediate right after joining an ATV trail and look for two poles on the right marking the start of the trail.

After climbing the ridge, the route is pretty obvious. Climb the scree gully at the end of the ridge to a high saddle. The gully was basically free of snow when we went, but immediately past the saddle there is a patch of deep snow with some exposure. Consider microspikes or crampons if going soon, and definitely bring an ice axe.

Beyond the snow it’s a short scramble to the summit. This section has considerable exposure and you shouldn’t attempt it if you’re not okay with that. However, it’s not technically difficult and doesn’t last long. Amazing views of the lake and basically all the Chugach Mountains!
