Ascent Trip ReportGot up at 4:15 and headed toward Delta around 4:40. We ended up at the trail head around 8:40, with a 20 minute wait for the sunrise on the highway east of Nephi. The area was stunning, with green grasses growing everywhere. The final few miles heading up to the Notch Peak trail head are pretty rough and rocky. Some clearance is required, and I needed four wheel drive for one little section (a deep rut runs across the road, and you just have to push through it. Sevier Lake (the small section of spring runoff in the middle of the lake bed) looked like glass from the multiple view points along the trail. That was a highlight. My GPS was getting messed up in the canyon, so it came out saying the hike was 10 miles total, but I am guessing that it is closer to 9, if you take the detour up and out of the gully. There were several other parties present. When we arrived, there were 3 other vehicles. Two belonged to a group of 11 or so hiking friends, which we met below the summit. On our way back we encountered several other people. It seems the secret of Notch Peak is getting out. (Swasey, on the other hand, was completely vacant).
The views are astounding. This hike is well worth a repeat.
