Made a combination of Greg's route and David's route while also adding in Peak 6178 and it worked out very well. Parked at the Sulphur Springs/ Bare Mtn TH gates. Went up the easy PCT to a saddle at 5960' and a 3-way junction including the use trail to Pacifico Mtn, the firebreak to Peak 6178 and the PCT. From here took the well worn and well ducked use trail steeply up the ridge. Entered beautiful pine forest and went past big boulders before reaching the road to the campground. Followed the road the last stretch. About 0.25 mile before the summit we located the Pacifico Azimuth Benchmark on a large boulder with a big fallen Jeffrey pine on top of it. Broke a bunch of branches off and found the benchmark located at N34.37978° W118.03333° so for all you benchmark completists go get it! We would find that this is the only BM of the original 1958 marks that still remains. Passing the summit we went and found the replacement for Pacifico AUX 1 LA CO 1964 benchmark located at N34.38317° W118.03372° which is now a quarter size mark stamped LA CO ENGR. Next searched for the geocache to no avail, a likely victim of fallen trees, removed this part from GPS track. Then onto the summit where we found the register at ground level to the South of the various summit boulders. PAC 2 NCER benchmark placed in 1977 is the easy benchmark to find and is still intact in the center of the summit boulder area. Climbed the class 3 boulder for Reference BM No.1 to find BM missing and pin remaining. Climbed Class 3/4 boulder with pipe anchor on top for Reference BM No. 2 to find BM missing and pin remaining. The Station Benchmark is on the tall Class 4 boulder also with a pipe anchor, this BM is also missing with the pin remaining. After a nice lunchbreak we headed back down the same way to the junction, then taking the firebreak up to Peak 6178 with lots of lupine (LOL) blooming up there. We then followed the firebreak North to meet up with PCT at the same spot the firebreak from Bare Mtn comes down to the PCT. Nice easy stroll down the PCT to the finish. We then camped at the beautiful forested Horse Flats campground in site #25. Great day! Tomorrow will be Cole and the Emmas.
