Ascent Trip ReportSomeone has done some trail maintenance up top. But thorny shrubs are already shooting up in the trail, so get this sooner than later.
Drove in a different way than others have reported. I have future plans over Lime Kiln Pass (S of Mesquite), so I wanted to check out the roads there anyway.
An 9-in clearance SUV should make it up and over Lime Kiln Pass. At a 4-way, turned left onto BLM-1041 NNE-bound. Any SUV can handle this road, but it's bumpy enough that we didn't make the time I wanted. You join BLM-1004 N-bound at a subtle fork (need to remember this for return). This is mostly the same, but there's one short section, not far from the Mt Bangs Rd, that high-clearance was nice. 9-in clearance might work, but you'll have to have a good aim. It was about 34 miles from the Mesquite exit, but unfortunately didn't mark the time. Definitely over 90 minutes, so if it is quicker than going to St. George, it's not by a whole lot.
