Ascent Trip Report

Being from NC, sometimes you overlook what is right in front of you. I spent 45 years going up to Avery County before climbing this beautiful rock ledge summit that afford views in all direction of Grandfather Mountain, the Amphibolite Range, the Roan Highlands, the mountains surrounding Linville Gorge and even the Brushy Mountains in NC and Grayson Highlands in VA. From NC 105 just past the main entrance to the ski resort of the same name, turn right and then a quick left onto Grouse Mooore Road. Wind your way up the mountain and then turn left on Craggy Pointe. Then right on Trail's End to a cul-de-sac just some 100 feet from the Summit peak. If you walk up the the trail, you can rock hop to find the best views of the peaks described above. I was there in April and on the way down chatted with an employee of the ski slope while we stood in snow in 65 degree temps.
