Ascent Trip ReportThis one really kicked my ass. Despite making pretty good time (car-to-car in about 7.5 hours), I was dead tired at the end with a headache and my knee bothering me.
Took the winter route as described on Summitpost. The snow stopped once I got to the ridge at Point 11705. Took a shortcut between the Geyser Pass road and Gold Basin road (obvious on the map). Also, I found a thready use trail through the scree contouring around Point 12271 which saved elevation gain in each direction, that was nice. I tried to contour around the next point but that was rougher and on the way back and I just went up and over.
I was really huffing and puffing towards the end of the ascent, and had an headache a bit later, despite having spent a week at 4000 - 6000 ft. elevation, and sleeping the night before at over 8000 ft.
Had to get out my ice axe for a short section on the final ridge,
