Ascent Trip Report

Perseverance prevailed. "DO READ MY SUGGESTION". a 40 minute visit.

I first came here on 2016-08-08 and found that the access issue was the same as reported my M Schwartz and J Mitchler, however a kindred spirit just about got me in. The guard on duty called her boss for permission and he ok'ed entry as long as I signed a liability form which I did. The guard was instructed to have one of the workers escort me there. We were on our way out the door when the phone rang - the boss reversed his decision, for unknown reasons .

Prior to this second visit I got permission through the contacts in their web site "thewildernessreserve". The people I dealt with couldn't have been nicer. They were not aware/surprised that the high point was on their property. They apparently did some research prior to my arrival.
When I got to the gate a young gentleman was assigned to drive me to the HP. You are not allowed to walk around unescorted. We parked on the main N-S Road 200 yds east of Area 1, then both walked west to the 2 areas. Some snow still on the ground.
Area 1, the larger of the 2 cleared areas, has a number of large fenced-in old pens which at one time were used for breeding. They are no longer in use as the fences do not meet the new state law for 10 foot high fences (the existing are 8 feet).
Area 2 - this old cleared area is being allowed to rejuvenate itself.
There in no obvious HP.
The reserve has deer and elk and some logging areas.
We were in and out of the Reserve in 40 minutes .

MICHIGAN/WISCONSIN STATE BORDER HIGH POINT.
I checked this one out after my visit to the Reserve. From the Reserve Entrance a paved private road heads northeast to Smokey Lake (its heavily posted at this spot but the Reserve people didn't see a problem). I drove .6 miles to the State Line and found that the Reserve's 10 foot fence boundary line parallel's this road, so there is no way to get to this HP (at abt 50yds from the road). The only way is from inside the Reserve, perhaps with the COHP - I was not about to bother the Reserve for the second time.

ATTENTION/SUGGESTION TO COHPers.
I purposely have not added names to this report. The new owner (of about 5 years) is apparently a very friendly gentleman. These are kindred spirits, so lets not spoil it for others. Apparently this is the slow season and the best time for a visit.
HERE IS MY SUGGESTION - ATTEMPT THIS COHP ONLY AFTER YOU'VE ALL BUT COMPLETED THE STATE. I AM SURE THE RESERVE WILL UNDERSTAND YOUR SITUATION/PASSION.

One county to go ?????
