Ascent of Mount Pershing on 2017-09-08
|Date:||Friday, September 8, 2017|
|Ascent Type:||Unsuccessful - Turned Back|
| Elevation:||3600 ft / 1097 m|
Ascent Trip ReportThis was an exploratory hike to assess conditions related to the approach. Starting from the Jefferson Creek bridge on Forest Road 2401, I found a use trail and followed it as it paralleled Jefferson Creek for a short time, then headed uphill. I was expecting the use trail to thread its way through thick vine maple towards Ellinor Lake where other trip reports described a approach route along a southwest ridge. Instead, the trail appeared to lead to an approach from the east side of the summit. After following the use trail long enough to become certain of its intent, I eventually retreated so I could review this approach and verify its viability.
