Ascent Trip ReportTurn off the main street thru Young Harris onto Bald Mountain Road which leads into the south side parking lots of the college. I parked in the upper student lot which on a Sunday was less than half full. Bald Mountain Road continues on up hill as a dirt gravel lane. I passed thru a red metal gate. No signage marks the trailhead. I just hiked along the lane for a mile or so until it crested at a wilderness boundary. The lane continues on, but skirts to the south of Granny Knob.
Easy minute or two of off trail walking to the high point.
On the way back I stayed on top of the ridge and followed along a grassy track that led to a stout radio tower. Track ended there, but I continued on down a steep slope following the power poles that within minutes merged back with the Bald Mountain track. |
