Ascent Trip ReportThis stately peak is on the SE 50 Finest list, and is an easy, but rewarding summit.
From VA-130 south of the mountain, turn N onto 653/Ambrose Rucker Rd, then immediately left on initially-paved 779/Mistover Dr. This road climbs high on the mountain before turning to good gravel, suitable for any vehicle. I parked at the turnoff for the spur road to the summit, which is gated shut, and instead followed an obvious foot path off to the left. This led to a hang-gliding jumpoff with a nice view to the west. I bushwhacked to the large radio tower complex on top. High ground was a small rock outside the fence line. Some nice views can be had to the east, including downtown Lynchburg. The summit is posted, but I don't think anyone is gonna bother you up here. It was a quick walk down the spur road, which makes a full 720-degree spiral on its way to the summit.
This summit, the last Virginia peak I needed for the 50 Finest list, was also my 1000th distinct point I've climbed per Peakbagger.
