Ascent of Mount Lafayette on 2018-04-14Date: | Saturday, April 14, 2018 | Ascent Type: | Successful Summit Attained | Peak: | Mount Lafayette | Location: | USA-New Hampshire | Elevation: | 5240 ft / 1597 m |
Ascent Trip ReportWent up to NH with more ambitious goals, however April decided to bring in a serious winter storm. Decided to go for the Franconia notch loop regardless to test out long(ish) winter hiking abilities. Our microspikes were necessary all the way throughout the falling waters trail, across the ridge, and down Greenleaf trail/Old Bridle Path. About 75% of the way between Lincoln and Lafayette we were hit with some serious gusts (at least 70mph) from the Northeast (could see the storm coming over the Presis). at this point our facemasks and goggles were needed as we were getting pelted with freezing rain. Made the whole loop in decent time (7h30m). |
