Ascent Trip ReportWith the last name of Stewart, one of my bucket lists is to summit all high points which bear my name. This high point is unique because it has a summit in two different states (North Carolina and Georgia). I began my climb on a steep gravel road that was not posted. Since the gravel was large diameter and very loose, I decided to hike instead of drive. From where I left my car on the east side of the mountain, I was only .18 air miles from the summit of Stewart Mountain in North Carolina and .71 air mile from the Stewart Mountain summit in Georgia. I climbed to the North Carolina high point first and reached it in just 9 minutes. From this summit the Stewart Mountain high point in Georgia was only .6 air miles to the south and I hiked there next in 13 minutes following the road and then an unmaintained trail which required a small amount of bushwhacking. The road on the ridge line between the two summits made me feel that the area will be a new housing project someday. Hopefully it will not be posted or become a gated community. There was a house only a few hundred feet south from the summit of the Georgia high point of Stewart Mountain and I heard a loud barking dog. I did not linger long since I did not know if I might actually be on that residence's property, so I took my victory photo and hurried back into the protection of the forest and then back to my car. My total round trip distance climbing to both summits and back to my car was a little over one mile and I was gone 50 minutes.
