Ascent Trip Report

Drove west on Burns Canyon Road using a 2WD full size truck, which easily passed along the road. Turned north on unnamed dirt road, where Burns Canyon Road turned left to the west. Parked up the road to where it intersected a jeep road heading to the east.

Hiked along the road heading east, until reaching a ridgeline and followed that over some bumps to a dry creek at the base of Black Mountain. The use trail from the road to the creek was faint in places and I ended up deviating from the tracks Patrick O'Neill posted from January 2016. The ascent to the summit was along a well marked trail. Signed the register, took a break and then headed back to the creek along the same trail. Once at the creek, I followed a different well marked trail up a drainage and then to a saddle that intersected my original track. I followed that, but again the faint trail was lost and I decided to just go cross country toward the dirt road.
