Ascent Trip Report

Met my old friend, Dale Talcott and his 11 year old grandson Justin for an ascent of Trinity Peak. He was able to get up past a game guzzler and to about 5550 ft. in his Jeep Cherokee, and we hiked from there.

It was about a 2.6 mile trip one way to the peak - at least it would have been if we hadn't made a mistake and gone up the wrong side of a slight canyon to a lower peak to the south first. That cost us a little distance, elevation repeat, and aggravation, but we soon made our way to the actual peak. We had picked up sandwiches from Port of Subs before we left, had our first halves during a break at about 2/3rds the way up, then the rest after summiting. We only encountered a couple very small patches of snow hiding on north slopes in shady areas.

The return trip was uneventful other than my genius idea of taking a slightly different route, heading farther north than I realized, and traversing a lot of country to get back to them. I'd thought I went a long way out of my way, but in looking at the map just now, I don't think it was that bad - - - I just took a different route, and without visual contact with them, there was a little stress involved. But we made it back to the Jeep when he had hoped to (6pm), after summiting at about 3:15 (he had aimed for 3:00). We left the Jeep at 11:15 that morning, so it was a fairly full day of hiking. Nice workout - by far, my best one so far this year!
