Ascent Trip ReportWow what a view! The drive out Pinyon Mountain Road was better than I expected. We took Kim's truck which has pretty high clearance but is 2 wheel drive and had no problems at all, never needed the rear locker or anything like that. We did bring my air pump just in case we needed to air down a bit but did not need to. The road is a bit sandy in a few places but in good shape overall. We were able to drive all the way to the saddle and park in the little turn around below the SE ridge. The weather was perfect, about 30 mph wind and cool, great weather to keep the sweating down and the body running cool. The view from the top of Pinyon Mountain surprised me. I was not expecting such a great view. I should have known, after all I am pretty easy to please and have never met a mountain or a view I didn't like or appreciate. Kim is doing so great, just after 4 1/2 months from back surgery and fusion, I see her getting stronger and more agile by the week. We met 3 people coming down as we were going up the first ridge and had a nice chat. They were finishing up and heading over to climb Whale Peak. At about 200 yards from the summit we met 2 women on their way down and visited a bit with them, so quite a few people out on these desert peaks today. We spent a good hour on the summit just enjoying the cool breeze and a bit of breakfast, ahhhh gotta love a fig bar for breakfast with a good shot of water. This route was very short and steep enough in places to be quite fun especially on the way down. Another beautiful day on a summit with Kim.
