Ascent Trip ReportI had a business trip to Washington DC and I called the number listed in the other trip reports on Monday March 19th.
I spoke to Kevin Upson who is the commanding officer for Mrs. Kelly Swanger. He told me to call back on Tuesday as Mrs. Swanger was out of the office. I called back the next day and Mrs. Swanger was very nice. She took my email address and sent me an email granting me access to the mountain and also requesting all the needed supporting information. I sent the information over that same day.
I recommend you print the email from Mrs. Swanger and take it with you to the mountain.
I drove up to the mountain on Sunday morning March 25th. I arrived at High Rock at 8:30am. I took some pictures and then started walking up the road. There was a Maryland State Trooper parked at the first gate and he asked why I was there. I told him I was there to hike the mountain. He told me I could not do that. I then told him I had permission from Mrs. Swanger and showed him the email she sent me (on my phone). (This is where a paper printout would have been helpful.) He read the email and then said I was free to hike up the mountain. I walked up the road and another police car passed me driving down and I waved to him. He did not stop. When I got to the top I walked up to the guard booth and another uniformed officer came out. I asked if I needed to sign in and he said no. We have been expecting you. We were informed you would be here, so go ahead and walk up the road and circle back down. I hiked up the remaining short climb to the top and took a selfy with the trees as a back drop.
I then hiked back down to my car waving to the guard shack and the state trooper.
Overall it was a super easy hike. It was super cold out (Below 20 degrees, but clear and beautiful.
THANK YOU Mrs. Kelly Swanger!!!!!!!!
