Ascent Trip Report

From our park point in front of the Mark Twain Saloon on C Street in Virginia City, we headed south on C to Taylor and then walked west on Taylor until it transitioned to Stewart St. A few steps up Stewart brought us to a road that led us past a pair of water tanks and beyond the outskirts of town. Rather than continuing up the very steep road along the power lines through Spanish Ravine we opted for the longer and slightly less demanding route that eventually tops out at Ophir Hill.

It was getting pretty warm on this August day so we took a rain check on Ophir and headed cross country until reaching a point of land at around 7,500' near the head of Spanish Ravine. A short uphill trek brought us to the first communication facility and the road that continues along a ridge to Mount Davidson.

As reported by others, the summit views were excellent in all directions. Our return trip took us down the steep and more direct route through Spanish Ravine. Once back to our vehicle, it was on to our motel in Virginia City and a good night's rest before a hike up Snow Valley Peak near Lake Tahoe the following morning.
