Ascent Trip ReportPrevious directions will get you there. I arrived at first light and the upscale neighborhood was quiet. A couple of notes. I quickly scrambled up the hill and found a variety of blue ribbons, a concrete square with the benchmark, and a survey marker. I was surprised (though I shouldn’t have been), that the road wraps around the high point, meaning that there are homes on all sides, and that there is no access to the actual Red Mountain (see Peakbagger if you want to nab that one as well – I didn’t have time). I was also surprised at how close this was to where I parked. Maybe 50 to 100 yards up the hill and across the flat summit area. Easy. I was particularly pleased as I checked off one of my “home counties,” that is, one of the places that I’ve actually lived. I’m still missing Suffolk, Queens, and New York counties in New York and Jefferson Parish, Louisiana (from my childhood), but now have every county I’ve called home since adulthood.
