Ascent Trip ReportEntered 3/17/2018. Hike with Outdoor Pursuits Fall 2016.
We drove up Friday afternoon and reached the parking lot at the start of the Nineteen Mile Brook Trail along Route 16 at about 8:00PM. We hiked in the dark for about 3.7 miles until reaching the Carter Notch Hut at abut midnight, which we stayed the night in. The reflection of the moon against the lakes in Carter Notch was stunning. The hut was very nice! When we awoke the next morning there was a thin layer of snow on the ground. We got an early start and scrambled up the Carter-Moriah trail to Carter Dome. No view from the summit. Besides, it was cloudy so there wouldn't have been views anyway. We then made our way to Mount Hight. Again no views but once in awhile the sun would peak through revealing a stunning image of the surroundings. A member injured their ankle on the descent which slowed our departure. Ruide was nice enough to carry that person's pack the last couple of miles to the parking lot. We left in the dark. Beyond the injuries in our group, what an amazing hike! This was my first overnight with outdoor pursuits. |
