Ascent Trip Report

Possible first winter ascent of Robinson. We drove to the yellowjacket sno-park friday night and camped out, then skinned from the car in the morning all the way up to the edge of the small tarn at 6800ft on the se side of Robinson, 11 hours later.

We left camp at 5am and found a safe, low-angle route through trees avoiding avy terrain to gain the ridge south of the tarn. We followed the ridge as the wind picked up, it started snowing, and clouds rolled in to make it a near whiteout. Around this time we reached the crux step below the false summit. Luckily I'd brought a 30m rope and rock pro to protect this. It was a 30m-long narrow knife edge ridge covered in ice and snow, and tricky in crampons and blowing snow.

Once past this crux we marched easily to the summit. We downclimbed the step, then backtracked our route along the ridge as the whiteout abated. I reached my skis at the end of the ridge and skied back to camp, then we skied all the way back to the car that afternoon and drove back to seattle by 2am.
