Ascent Trip Report

Ngauruhoe is a very young volcano, whose slopes are covered in loose ash and very fine scree. The mountain is much like a giant sand dune and, as such, the ascent is not much fun. You will rarely encounter solid ground to step on. That said, this is a novelty summit to bag(gins), and it boasts incredible views of the surrounding plateau, so it's probably worth it.
